Interaction of eigenvalues in multi-parameter problems
The paper presents a new general theory of interaction of eigenvalues of matrix operators depending on parameters. Both complex and real eigenvalues are considered. Strong and weak interactions are distinguished, and their geometric interpretation on the complex plane is given. Mechanical examples are presented and discussed in detail. r 2003 Elsevier Ltd. Solving Generalized CDT Problems via Two-Parameter Eigenvalues
We consider solving a nonconvex quadratic minimization problem with two quadratic constraints, one of which being convex. This problem is a generalization of the Celis-Denis-Tapia (CDT) problem and thus we refer to it as GCDT (Generalized CDT). The CDT problem has been widely studied, but no polynomial-time algorithm was known until Bienstock’s recent work. His algorithm solves the CDT problem ...

Let any instance p of problem P be characterized by n integer-valued parameters: )) ( , ), ( ( ) ( 1 p x p x p x n ! = ; } {∞ = " Z Z , | { ) ( p y P = } ) ( y p x ≤ be the subproblem defined for an arbitrary vector n Z y∈ . To determine the complexity of all subproblems ) ( y P , n Z y∈ , a notion of the basis system of subproblems is introduced. It is shown that if such a basis system exists,...
متن کاملStructure of Eigenvalues of Multi-Point Boundary Value Problems
The structure of eigenvalues of −y q x y λy, y 0 0, and y 1 ∑m k 1 αky ηk , will be studied, where q ∈ L1 0, 1 ,R , α αk ∈ R, and 0 < η1 < · · · < ηm < 1. Due to the nonsymmetry of the problem, this equation may admit complex eigenvalues. In this paper, a complete structure of all complex eigenvalues of this equation will be obtained. In particular, it is proved that this equation has always a ...
